A Derby suburban triple DMU arrives into Hall Green station in early 1961. The closest car seems to be W51130. Michael Mensing.
Class 116 DMU set TY537 (presumably 51130 closest) arriving at Small Heath with the 17:10pm Birmingham Moor Street - Henley-in-Arden service on 12 March 1977. Heading away is a six-car formation with a 101/101/100 hybrid and a refurbished Class 116. Michael Mensing.

In the days when it was possible to sit at the front of a diesel multiple unit and (assuming that the driver had not lowered the blind) it was possible to enjoy a "driver's eye" view of the track ahead. On board a class 116 unit as a similar unit passes in the opposite direction on the section of route between Solihull and Lapworth that used to be four tracks. A pair of WMPTE class 116 dmus (TS624 and presumably 51130 closest with 59615 + 51143) forming one of the Coalville Open day shuttles, having traveled on this along the freight only line from Leicester to Coalville, the train is now loading up again before continuing to Burton-on-Trent. 1st September 1985. Summer Saturdays on the North Wales Coast route obviously brought many additional services to the area, but on weekdays, as well, there were a few unusual workings to be found during the summer months. Here a West Midlands PTE 6-car DMU formation working the 0941 Birmingham New St - Llandudno service brakes for the station stop at Prestatyn made up of Tyseley depot sets TS 624 + TS 614 formed of M51130 + M59615 + M51143 and M53895 + M59609 + M53842 (Class 116 driving vehicles with Class 127 trailers displaced from the BedPan electrification scheme). A 2-car hybrid set from Tyseley (set T034) at Boston on 6 November 1991 working a Nottingham-Skegness service. The two dmu vehicles are 51130 + 52042. 52042 was a Class 108 driving car, and was new in September 1960. It was withdrawn from service at Tyseley on 5 October 1992 and was scrapped by Booth Roe in Rotherham. 51130 was a Class 116 driving car and was new in August 1958. It was withdrawn from service, also at Tyseley, in March 1992 and was scrapped by Mayer Parry in Snailwell. Lewis Bevan.

The rainbow provides a clue as to what is coming as a class 116 unit (believed to comprise vehicles 51143 + 59627 + 51130) leaves Warwick station for Leamington Spa on what until then had been a sunny evening in September 1984. Bob Belcher.
Newly painted class 116 set TS624 (presumably 51143 + 59615 + 51130) approaching Small Heath with a Birmingham Moor Street to Stratford-upon-Avon train on 22 March 1986. I never felt entirely comfortable in this location if no other photographers were present as there was a bit of a dodgy pub immediately to the left of the road bridge but on this occasion there wasn't an issue because 2 steam-hauled workings were working away from Birmingham... Class 116 set TS624 (51143 + 59615 + 51130) was pictured leaving Stratford-upon-Avon for Birmingham Moor Street on the evening of 24 June 1986. The shot was from the window of Stratford-upon-Avon East signalbox, somewhere I visited most weeks once the weekly Special Traffic Notice had been delivered to have a check through in case anything decent was around the following week.
