Derby built 1960 Class 108 DMBS M51927, is high on the jacks inside its home depot on the occasion of the Tyseley open day on 4th October 1987. Once a Buxton allocated unit with its trade mark white roof and on the 108's black window surround, now Tyseley's unit T212 with its West Midlands logo but interesting the Buxton BX490 set plate is still displayed in the window. A busy scene at Manchester Piccadilly's platforms 1-4 on the 6th May 1989, including five Derby Class 108 units (51927 is rightmost), one of them a Buxton white roofed 3 car example, and on the left 104 unit N669 is being prepared for a special run to Buxton, on the right is an ex-AM3 Glasgow Blue Train in the shape of the Manchester PTE liveried Class 303. Stratford-upon-Avon used to see a lot of day excursion traffic. This time exposure shows Longsight allocated LO350 (presumably 51935/59388/51927) + LO349 standing in platform 2 awaiting departure time before returning to Blackpool on 3 February 1990. For those interested, the exposure on 100asa transparency film was 12 seconds at f8. I always took several exposures when shooting after dark to try and ensure that there would be at least one with the correct light and shadow balance. It's much easier (and cheaper) with digital hardware! Peter Tandy.
