A class 108 DMU set led by car M52041 awaits departure from platform 2 at Preston with a Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service on the 22nd October 1984. This car continued in service until November 1992 and was scrapped two months later. An exposure of 11 seconds at f8 was used. S Gaskell.
A Class 108/101 hybrid three-car DMU with Class 108 Driving Motor Car M52041 leading was stood on the Up Fast at Leyland with a Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service on May 1st 1986. The Class 101 Trailer Second car is probably 59540. Martyn Hilbert.

Class 119 sets L576 and L578 have either come out of or are about to enter the empty siding on the right. They are at Spalding on a Flower Parade special from West Ruislip on 7 May 1983. Other details from the July 1983 issue of The Railway Observer (p270): in the sidings on the far left are 53669 + 59256 + 53718 / 50331 + 59125 + 50308 / 53738 + 59262 + 53693 which ran from Burton-on-Trent / Leicester. A busy scene at York on 5th June 1985, as passengers hurry along the platform to board a gurgling four-car DMU with Newton Heath-allocated hybrid Class 104 (DMBS) 53463 & Class 108 (DMCL) 52041 leading the formation. The driver is at the head of the 'convoy' of passengers, with his polystyrene cup of British Rail tea and the guard unloads parcels from the luggage area of the Class 104. Standing alongside is Hull Botanic Gardens-allocated Class 108 (DTCL) 54207. Gordon Edgar.

S946 (presumably 52046 + 53939) is working the 12.52 Shrewsbury-Swansea and S951 (presumably 52041 + 53935) the 11.49 Swansea-Shrewsbury. I had arrived at Llandrindod on the "Welsh Mountain Cobbler" railtour (hauled by 47 612) and this photo was taken during a 90 minute break in the railtour itinerary. Lewis Bevan.
