Taken with a long-lens, a Derby Class 108 two-car DMU formed of cars M51925 & M52037 was approaching Bamber Bridge with a Colne to Preston service on August 10th 1979. At the time the stone built Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway waiting room was still standing on the eastbound platform, along with the subway buildings adjacent to the level crossing. The 108 had just passed under what was a historic bridge. The brick built structure was the first in the UK that took a Motorway over a railway line, the M6 Preston By-pass opening for business in December 1958 and was the first stretch of motorway in Britain. The bridge was enlarged and altered when the M6 was widened in the late 1990's. Martyn Hilbert.
A 6-car Class 108 / Met-Camm formation heads away from Kirkham Junction, Lancashire, on 11/10/1986. The two leading vehicles are 51925 (with Merseyside PTE logo) and 59107. Graeme Phillips Collection.
On a bright Winter afternoon, a Class 108/111 hybrid four-car DMU was arriving at Leyland with a Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service on January 11th 1987. The leading car was Class 108 Derby Lightweight M51925, with Met-Cam Class 111 Trailer Open Second Lavatory (TSL) M59107 following, the third car was a Class 108 Centre Trailer, with Class 108 Driving Trailer M52043 bringing-up the rear. Martyn Hilbert.
A Class 108/101 hybrid DMU (51925 + 59107 + 52043) at Sheffield on 30/5/87. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Set 385, led by Class 108 51925 (and presumably with 59710 + 53643) arrived into Broughty Ferry on September 29th, 1988. John Carter.
Crossing Class 108s on a wet day at Llandrindod Wells. On the left S945 with 51925 is on the 12:22 Llandrindod-Swansea, on the right S943, 51561 visible, is working the 10:43 Shrewsbury-Llandrindod. These were normally through workings that terminated at Llandrindod Wells and returned to Swansea and Shrewsbury respectively, possibly due to one of the crews lack of route knowledge. 7 October 1989. Robert Thomas.
A Derby Class 108 Driving Car M52043 was stood at Leyland at the rear of a six-car Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North service on October 15th 1986. The car was running as part of a three-car set, coupled with Class 108 DMBS M51925 and Metro-Cammell Class 111 Trailer Car M59107. Martyn Hilbert.
