Two 2-car newly completed Met-Camm sets at Saltley ready for delivery on July 26th 1957. The nearest vehicle, DTC E56071, carries displays in the windows noting it is the 250th railcar built for British Railways. The vehicles were destined for Sunderland depot. Metropolitan Cammell.
Class 101 E56071 + E51223 operates a Darlington-Saltburn service at South Bank on May 15, 1982. John Carter.
54071 is seen on the rear of a Carlisle - Newcastle service entering Haltwhistle station at 18:25 on Saturday 26/7/86. Mel Holley.
A Class 101/116 set (E54071 + W53848) in Morecambe station on the 14th July 1988. Hamish Stevenson.
In a scene barely recognisable as the same today, Metropolitan-Cammell Class 101 unit 50157 + 56071, forming a Bishop Auckland to Saltburn service, passes the soon to be barren waste ground of the former Teesside Works Lackenby blast furnaces at Grangetown on 17th March 1983. The South Bank coke ovens are just out of view to the left and the converter at the Lackenby plant, under demolition in 2022, is to be seen above the railway as it curves away to the left.
