Cars E56429 E51282 are seen at Gateshead East approaching Newcastle with a service from South Shields on 30/5/81, the last day of British Rail services on the South Tyneside branch prior to conversion to the Tyneside Metro system. Against the backdrop of Newcastle's skyline, a Class 47 can be seen approaching the station on the ECML. Graeme Phillips Collection.

A Cravens unit enters Mistley station, working between Harwich and Manningtree in April 1983. The signal box was later moved to the East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel & Wakes Colne. The DTC closest is possibly 56429. Kevin Lane.
Evidence of imminent resignalling is obvious in this photograph at Ely North taken on 19 October 1985 as a class 105 led by E54429 arrives at its destination. The light had all but caved in by this time but looking at the slides of classes 20, 31, 37 and 45 I took at March it had cleared by the time we reached there. Peter Tandy.

Many people disliked the Cravens Class 105s intensely because of their noisy ride. To me this just added to the 'experience'. To get a Cravens twin with the needle off the clock (over 70mph) was exhilarating to say the least and also quite commonplace. Here Norwich set no. 47 (E51295 + E56429) awaits its next duty on September 9th 1981. Gerard Fletcher.
On a very bright Thursday October 28th 1982, the 11.47 Peterborough - Cambridge service pauses at Whittlesea with (left to right) Cravens Class 105 sets 58 (E51255/E56429) and 47 (E56135/E51295). Gerard Fletcher.
The 2-car class 105 'Cravens' DMU sets were synonymous with East Anglia in the BR era as Norwich Thorpe depot had a large allocation. This scene on December 31, 1982 depicts an afternoon gathering of the class at Ipswich where five Norwich sets are captured line a breast but only four were placed conveniently side by side. Set 61 in the platform with people boarding was working 2R22 the 12.52 via the East Suffolk line to Lowestoft. The line up left to right comprises; set 31. 53375+54468, set 52. 51299+54429, set 66. 51260+54130, set 61. 51290+54462, and 51478 on the very left. Adrian Nicholls.
A scene at York station on 27 September 1986 - with one of the distinctive-looking Cravens units. The unit was about to work the 16.42 local service to Doncaster - vehicle numbers E51299 and E54429. The station staff stage-left had just blown his whistle, and on this occasion I even primed my 'ghetto blaster' and made a recording of the departure: https://soundcloud.com/sound-vision-10193594/class-105-2-car-dmu-e51299-e54429-leaves-york-on-a-local-service-to-doncaster-27sep1986. A Cravens unit stands at Lincoln Central on 23rd April 1987. I rarely noted DMU numbers but on this occasion I recorded this unit as nos. 51299 and 54429. Andrew Walker.
