An NSE-liveried Class 101 DMU, set L991 containing 53308 + 59125 + 53331, passes though Princes Street Gardens on 3 May 1993. Not in service is on the blind, so it is possibly an ECS from Haymarket depot, the set spent six months allocated there from February to August 1993. Stuart Mackay Collection.

In 1993 there were hourly local trains between Oxford and Banbury operated by Network SouthEast DMUs. On 7 May, 3 coach class 101 (L839, presumably 53326 + 59306 + 53310) in full NSE colours was allocated and it is seen here between Banbury and Kings Sutton stations shortly on an early afternoon working. Peter Tandy.
Despite the number of trains on the GWR from Paddington to Didcot in 1993 it was quite unusual to take a passing shot of two sets in the right place unless the one on the relief line was standing at a signal. On 7 May 1993 class 101 set L835 (presumably 51498 + 59530 + 51432) was working a Paddington to Oxford or Banbury train as it was passed by a down HST at full line speed in Moreton Cutting. Peter Tandy.

Met-Camm Class 101 DMU set L842 (53327 and presumably 59110 + 53314) stabled at Exeter on 8 May 1993. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Lowestoft station changed radically when the overall roof was removed in the early 1990s. Regional Railways 101653 pauses between services on 10 May 1993, now in the open air. The grand Victorian building behind the station on the left is the old Tuttles department store, part of which is now the Joseph Conrad Wetherspoons pub. The Regional Railways Met Cam DMUs moved from Crown Point depot in Norwich to Longsight in Manchester, ending their mainline use around 2000. DMBS 51426 (closest to the camera) was cut up after withdrawal, but DTCL 54358 was luckier, entering preservation. Chris Boon.
Metro-Cammell products new & old side-by-side in the carriage shed at Llandudno Junction on May 11th 1993. With a 27 year age difference, The two-car Class 101 with car 51245 nearest the camera, had been built in 1958, and in 1993 formed as part of Longsight set LO604. The 151 was a pair of units (151 001/002) constructed by Met-Cam at Washwood Heath as prototypes for a proposed new generation of DMU's in 1985. In the event, the order went to BREL for the Class 150/2 Sprinter fleet and the 151's remained as 'what-might-have-been'. Metro-Cammell later gained a 'consolation prize' order to build the 114 x 2-car Class 156 fleet between 1987 & 1989. The 151's were eventually renumbered to 151 003/004 and various schemes were put forward to re-use them, but following a period of outdoor storage at Crewe South, they were scrapped in 2004. Martyn Hilbert.
Longsight based 1957 built Metro-Cammell class 101 dmu 101664 (54061, 51442), is seen standing at Heald Green on the Styal Loop line at 11.35, with a Wilmslow-Manchester Piccadilly service on 18th May 1993. Andrew J Crowther.
The former Reading allocated three-car 101 set L838, now branded L991 but still formed DMBS 53308, TCL 59125 and DMCL 53331 and still in NSE livery apparently in passenger service at South Gyle on 22/May/1993. It seems to have a Scottish destination blind and is attached to another set but I'm not sure what the working was. Later that year the set was transferred away from Haymarket, reduced to two cars and renumbered 960991 for sandite use. Robert Chilton.
L835 at (presumably 51498 + 51432) Reading on the 28th May 1993. Mike Cooper.

A DMU formed of 51201 + 54347 (101663) and 53202 + 54203 (LO241) at Warrington Bank Quay station on 29 May 1993. Keith Miller.
A two-car Class 101 DMU, it looks like it could be 101683 (51177 + 53269) in Ince station on 1 June 1993. Note it has no roof pods at this time, they were fitted by the start on 1994. Stuart Parkinson.
LO247 54060 + E53208 on 2H08, the 17:26 Manchester Piccadilly to Macclesfield at Cheadle Hulme, 4-6-93. The set number is in tiny black letters in the usual place, but it still carries it's previous set number of 88 in the center window. Kevin Dowd.
