101 DMU

17th November 1968

This slide was simply noted as 'between Newcastle Emlyn and Llanyssul'. It is believed to be the Warwickshire Railway Society Central Wales railtour on 17 November 1968, taken on board Swindon Cross-Country 50722 (in green) looking towards a three-car Met-Camm unit (both power cars with BR logos on the cab doors). Stuart Mackay Collection.

13th December 1968

An interesting liveried Class 101 near Guard Bridge on the 12.20pm ex-Leuchars Junction, the closest vehicle is in green livery with revised lining and a full yellow end, the other is in blue, the BR logo on the cab door suggests this had just a small yellow panel. 13th December 1968. Hamish Stevenson.

101 DMU

14th December 1968

Met-Camm DMUs at Richmond on December 14, 1968, just before closure of the line. The station, and many of the associated buildings still survive in other uses. The United bus depot next door has recently been demolished. The DMBS in the first set is in blue livery. John Carter Collection.

Unknown Date

A 3-car Met-Camm crossing the viaduct at Cleland heading east towards Edinburgh on the route from Glasgow via Shotts. Date unknown, but the set is in plain blue livery, the leftmost car has just a small yellow panel which dates it to circa late 1960s. Stuart Rankin.

Unknown Date

101 DMU

circa late 1960s

Met-Camm and (blue square) Derby Lightweight DMUs in Manchester Central station. Date unknown but the mix of blue (Note the BR logos are on the cab doors) and green liveries suggests mid to late 1960s, the station closed in May 1969. DMU services from here went to Chester and Liverpool (were there others?). Stuart Mackay Collection.

101 DMU

circa late 1960s

Darlington depot with at least 35 DMU vehicles in view. All but three are Met-Camms, those three can be seen in the row on the left and have two rows of vents on the roof rather than three. They are still airvac vents, so they are probably BRC&W vehicles. The mix of green and blue liveries suggest this is the late sixties, possibly a Sunday since there are so many vehicles on shed. Darlington station can be seen in the background. Graham Clark.

101 DMU

January 1969

A Class 101 Dalmeny, January 1969. You can almost feel the cold of this January day. When my parents friends came to visit they were invariably taken to see the Forth Bridges. To an 11 year old this was very boring as was an hour or so abandoned at Dalmeny to watch the trains - or lack of them. Back then it was much quieter than it is now and only DMUs to watch at that time on a Saturday afternoon. Alistair Ness.
