A Class 101 DMU at Sleaford on the 12:08 Lincoln to Skegness service on 20 Aug 1990. With Norwich set number 78 in the centre cab window the DMBS, closest, is presumably 53201. Neil Smith.

A trio of Heaton allocated class 101 2-car DMU's are seen at the closed station of Stanhope on the Weardale line on October 19, 1985. By this date the line beyond Bishop Aukland was retained as a freight only line serving Etherley ballast tip and Eastgate Cement Works the station at Stanhope having closed on 29/05/1953. This railtour operated by Hertfordshire Railtours had started from London Kings Cross behind 31 447 and 31 448 loco hauled to Darlington. To cover the two lengthy freight branches in Weardale and Wensleydale passengers transferred to this six car DMU formation for the middle six hours of the day 11.30 to 17.43. The same class 31's then returned the tour passenger to London leaving Darlington at 18.05. Adrian Nicholls.

A two-car Metro-Cam Class 101, 51184 leading and presumably with 54342, gallops past Three Horse Shoes signal box with an Ely to Peterborough service. Three Horse Shoes was the junction for the goods only Benwick branch, opened by the Great Eastern in 1898 and closed in 1966. The box was subsequently modernised, losing its impressive chimney. Standing amongst the rural neglect that was Sudbury (Suffolk) back in the early 1980's is this 2-car class 101 DMU set is waiting to depart with the 11.02 to Colchester on August 4, 1984. Adrian Nicholls.

Norwich based class 101 DMU set no.80 is seen amid the weed choked remnants of the once larger station of Sudbury on the former Great Eastern Railway cross country line from Marks Tey to Cambridge via Haverhill. The line beyond here closed in 1967 and this station itself shut in 1990 when the branch was truncated slightly to a newer station south of this one serving Sudbury. The 'Met-Cam' DMU is waiting to depart with train 2K11 the 11.35 to Colchester on 04/08/84. Adrian Nicholls.
