Hybrid set 101321 at Paisley Gilmour Street circa late 1986. The DMBS is 51249, if the centre car is the regular then it should be 59542, the blue DMS on the rear is Class 104 53491. Ian Docwra.
101321 (presumably 53146 + 59542 + 51249) departs from Edinburgh Waverley 11 March 1986. Notice how the set number is also carried on the end of the centre car. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Bob Woolnough.

Sthrathclyde-liveried set 101321 (51249 closest, presumably with 59542 + 53146) at Johnstone with the 13:00 Glasgow - Ayr service on August 28th, 1986. Hamish Stevenson.

101321 (presumably 53146 closest) at Dunlop on the 12.45 Glasgow Central - Kilmarnock, 23-11-1987. A futile attempt to take a shot in poor light. This looks like the train's heading into the sunset - actually it was the middle of a cold November day. The sun glints on the rails ahead. This was once double track. The area on the right became totally overgrown. To the left (the old goods yard) is now housing, with an obscenely high fence totally hemming in the platform. In 2009, the line from Stewarton to Lugton was re-doubled, and this view of Dunlop station has been totally transformed. It is now a twin track station again, and benefitting from a half hourly service between Kilmarnock and Glasgow. Gordon Thomson.
Away from its usual area are cars SC51249 SC59542 SC53146 (101 321) in Strathclyde PTE livery. Although Heaton (HT) depot, Newcastle, received some varied DMUs in Autumn 1987, these cars were never allocated there, so it was probably en route for works attention. Indeed, I photographed this unit at Glasgow in 1990. Graeme Phillips Collection.
47210, 156 449 and SC51249 in Glasgow Queen Street station on 06.06.89. Nicholas Youngman.
101 321 (presumably 53146 closest) heads up Cowlairs incline away from Glasgow Queen Street on 8/7/89. It's been stripped of almost all of its roof ventilators. John Reddyhoff.
A busy scene at Glasgow Central at 11.15 on 14/7/89. On the right unit 107 738 prepares to depart as the 11.15 to Barrhead. In the centre, 101 321 will depart at 11.28 to Haymarket. (In Summer 1989 the south tunnel at Haymarket was closed for electrification works, preventing access to Waverley from the Slateford direction, so the Glasgow Central services were terminating at, and starting from, Haymarket.) In the background, out of sight to the left, 120 534 has just arrived on the 10.40 from East Kilbride and its passengers are streaming past an unidentified cl.101. Leonard Rogers.
51249 at the front of set 101321 (presumably with 59542 + 53146) waiting to depart from Glasgow Queen Street with the 16:03 to Arbroath on the 5th February 1990. Mike Cooper.

Class 101s inside Ayr shed, circa 1982. With the top marker lamp, this should be 50159. Andrew McConnell.
Three Class 101 set 101322 approaches Kilkerran on its way to Glasgow. Date unknown, 51250 is presumably leading. Stuart Rankin.
Ardrossan Harbour, May 1985, in the immediate pre-electrification period. 101322 (with 51250 presumably closest) appears to be stabled near the site of where the new Harbour station is now located. Scanned from a slide given to me by a former railwayman. Gordon Thomson Collection.
The driver of Class 101 DMBS Sc51250 changes ends at Girvan. The high speed run down from Ayr has blown the windie wipers clean off the screens. Girvan. August 1986. Andrew McConnell.
Class 101 DMBS Sc51250 is about to be boarded by an enthusiastic DMU fan (who will be known to many here as "Big John" from the Swindon DPS) during one of the fondly remembered "Strathclyde Family Transcard DMU Spectaculars". Girvan. August 1986. Andrew McConnell.
SC51250 is on the rear of this formation at Ayr en-route from Girvan to Glasgow Central, August 1986. Andrew McConnell.
