Ayr Variety. BRCW Class 104 triple at Glasgow Central High Level Platfrom 11, having arrived on a working from Ayr. This is probably DMBS M53452 (104 450) + TBS E59225 + DMBS M53461 (104 452) seen previously at Ayr Kyle Street. Most of the vehicles drafted in after the Ayr Depot fire had seen better days elsewhere. The station roof needs some attention. The good old days!? Tuesday 24 January 1984. alicia hartman.

Ayr Variety. BRCW Class 104 triple at Glasgow Central High Level Platfrom 11, having arrived on a working from Ayr. This is probably DMBS M53452 (104 450) + TBS E59225 + DMBS M53461 (104 452) seen previously at Ayr Kyle Street. Two Class 86 Electric Locomotives are stabled at the stops in the adjacent Platform 10 - not an unusual occurrence in this part of the station at that time. Tuesday 24 January 1984. alicia hartman.

104 DMU

January 1984

Ayr Variety. Glasgow Central High Level with motley DMU formation departing for the Ayrshire coast in lingering snow and slush. The leading triple includes two ex Blackpool white stripe Class 104 Driving Cars sandwiching a Class 107 Trailer. Rear triple is probably MC DMB E53207 + BRCW DMC M53510 + MC DMS E54088. If anything, it shows the versatility of the Blue Square coupling code. Friday 27 January 1984. alicia hartman.

Leading triple has two ex Blackpool white stripe Class 104 Driving Cars sandwiching a Class 107 Trailer. January 1984

Ayr Variety. Platform 11 at Glasgow Central High Level with motley six car DMU departing for the Ayrshire coast. An old note book suggests the leading BRCW Triple is M53473 DMBSL (White Stripe) + Sc59789 (107 TSL) + M53525 DMCL (White Stripe and yellow First Class cantrail stripe) as seen at Central on 19/01/1984. The rear lash up is probably MC DMB E53207 + BRCW DMC M53510 + MC DMS E54088, previously seen at Ayr. Three manufacturers / vehicle types, all blue, blue with white stripe, blue - grey ... and 'first class'. Variety, indeed! A rotten photograph, but then again, possibly a rotten journey for commuters in vehicles past their best. Friday 27 January 1984. alicia hartman.

104 DMU

11th February 1984

The conductor guard is seen ambling up the platform closing the doors at Watford Junction on the St.Albans Abbey branch platform despite what the trains destination blind says. Platform 11 at Watford Junction is still somewhat isolated from the main part of the station and is adjacent to Watford Junction Yard. The rather shabby old class 104 DMU set is formed of Bletchley allocated vehicles M53539+M54183. It has just arrived with the 10.22 from St.Albans Abbey and will return as the 11.03 to St.Albans Abbey being a "one train working" branch line with no passing loops. February 11, 1984. Adrian Nicholls.

BRCW Class 104 DMU BX485 (presumably 53484 closest) waiting to depart for Manchester from Hunts Cross, 18th Feb 1984. Not one of my best shots as unfortunately it was into the sun, but it does show that the middle car of the unit had lost its roof vents whereas the power cars still retained them. Paul James.

Misdirected. BRCW Class 104 DMC M53505 leads a six car lash up out of the bay platforms at Ayr. Railcar suggests this was one of a number of DMU vehicles transferred to Ayr after the Depot fire. Despite the Lancashire destination screen, the train is heading north to Glasgow Central! Saturday 18 February 1984. alicia hartman.

M53541 and M54183 after arriving at Bedford St Johns with the 1202 from Bletchley on 16 March 1984. Eight weeks after this photo was taken this station was closed and a replacement with the same name was opened on the 14th May 1984 which allowed trains to continue into Bedford Midland station. 28th March 1984

A Class 104 Two-Car set formed of cars M53466 & M53511 was departing from Croston with an Ormskirk to Preston service on March 28th 1984. This particular set was once a three-car that had a centre trailer composite car, along with a first class saloon at the leading end of M53511. As a three-car set it was one of the large fleet of 104's based at Newton Heath that had a white bodyside stripe, used mainly on Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North workings. Martyn Hilbert.
