Class 104 53523 leads a Preston to Ormskirk service along the former double track mainline at Pages Crossing, Ulnes Walton, just west of Midge Hall on the 11th September 1985. In hazy evening sunlight, a BRCW two-car Class 104 DMU formed of cars M53518 & M53448 was passing the orchard at Narrow Lane Crossing, just to the West of Midge Hall whilst working a Preston to Ormskirk service on September 11th 1985. Martyn Hilbert.
A two-car BRCW Class 104 DMU approaching Midge Hall with the 11.39 Preston to Ormskirk service on September 17th 1985. The disused former Up line is visible to the right of the 104. Taken out of use in 1983, the track remained in-situ for many years. The signal protecting the level crossing at Midge Hall had been removed from the overgrown Up platform, and 'planted' in the formation of the disused track. The former goods warehouse dominates the scene here, at what is still a rural location. The station at Midge Hall was closed in 1961. Martyn Hilbert.

The home signal (MH 2) in the Down direction at Midge Hall, was (and still is) the only surviving working semaphore on the national network in the Preston area. Martyn Hilbert.
A two-car BRCW Class 104 DMU formed of cars M53494 & M53468 was passing the orchard trees, as it approached Narrow Lane farm crossing with a Preston to Ormskirk service on September 17th 1985. Martyn Hilbert.
As part of a joint BR/Steamport open day on September 28th 1985, a shuttle service from Southport station to the Steamport Museum at the former loco depot in Derby Road, was provided using a 2-Car Class 104 formed of cars M54175 & M53469. This was the view from Windsor Road footbridge, as having run from Southport station, and following a reversal in the headshunt alongside the former St Lukes station visible in the background, the 104 was running onto the access siding into Steamport. Martyn Hilbert.
