On a warm spring afternoon, 08/05/82, 2-car class 105 DMU (Norwich set 41) approaches Mill Green Level Crossing north of Spalding while working 1P15 the 12.38 Doncaster to Cambridge. Adrian Nicholls.

Set: 53

The 12.38 Doncaster - Cambridge via the GN/GE joint line leaves March on 15th May 1982 formed of Cravens Class 105 set no. 53 E51277 + E56463. On the rear is Lincoln based Class 114 unit E50016 + E56018 which was in a hybrid livery of old and new refurbished paint schemes. E51277 was to last another three years being withdrawn in May 1985. A four-car Class 105/104 DMU was passing Croft Street Sidings and the Preston PSB with a Blackpool South to Colne service on May 15th 1982. The lead set, a Cravens Class 105 power-twin, was formed of cars M50794 & M50761, at this late stage in its operational life, the Greater Manchester PTE 'M' logo had been added to M50794. The Cravens was finally withdrawn from Newton Heath depot in July 1983. Martyn Hilbert.

The view from the Boleyn Road bridge of Western Junction at Dalston on 19 May 1982. A Cravens twin is ambling past the 1891-built North London Railway box, working between North Woolwich and Camden Road. Behind the camera, Dalston Kingsland station was under construction, opening a year later, whilst beyond the train, the lines to Broad Street head off towards the south. These were closed in 1986, only to be put back in 2010 to form the East London Line Extension. The box survives. Kevin Lane.

Set: 37

On 22nd May 1982, the 12.40 Doncaster - Cambridge dmu is formed of Cravens Class 105 set no. 37, E50370 + E56457 which had been transferred from Stratford to Norwich three months earlier. It didn't last much longer and was withdrawn in October 1983. There was always an air of desolation about the joint line platforms at weekends without the passage of freights in and out of Whitemoor. The 12.40 Doncaster - Cambridge has Cravens set 37 trailer E56457 with a Stratford painted silver roof, while alongside just arriving is the 14.30 Cambridge - Lincoln Central with Derby heavyweight Class 114 E50013 + E56045. In March station on May 22nd 1982. Gerard Fletcher.

A Cravens DMU in nice external condition approaches Rotherham Masborough in July 1982. Bearing a "Special" destination blind, the DMU is on the normally freight-only lines heading towards Treeton and will not be stopping at the station. Andrew Walker.

On the slow line at Winwick Quay, a couple of miles north of Warrington Bank Quay, a view of the rear of a Cravens (M50772 closest) and Park Royal DMU, as they head from Manchester Victoria to Chester/North Wales on 2 July 1982. Commander Bond.

This pair of recently repainted dmus make a pleasant scene standing at the south end of York station on my visit of July 2nd 1982. Norwich based twin sets could turn up just about anywhere it seemed and here Cravens Class 105 set 54 formed of E56440 + E51279 is on the left having arrived as the 10.37 from Sheffield. Derby built set E50618 + E56190 has come in from Doncaster. Gerard Fletcher.

This Class 105 seems to be heading out of the fuelling sidings into Norwich station on 20/07/1982. Prior to electrification, and with semaphore signals still in place, in the background a Class 47 and Class 105 / 101 DMUs can also be seen. Graeme Phillips Collection.

March station on 24 July 1982 - Cravens Class 105 2-car DMU set 55 has arrived working the 17.12 from Peterborough, and will shortly cross over to the westbound track for it's return journey. The DMBS was recorded as E51265. Lewis Bevan.

47083 in the loco stabling point adjacent to March station on 24 July 1982. The Cravens Class 105 DMU (51265 closest) was recorded as the 17.12 from Peterborough - presumably the unit was in the process of running onto the westbound track for its return journey. Lewis Bevan.
