With the red tail light illuminated, rusty track in the foreground was marking the limit of travel at the single track terminus at the market town of Sudbury on April 26th 1980. A Cravens Class 105 two-car DMU formed of cars E51277 & E56125 was awaiting departure with the 16.69 mile return journey to Colchester, joining the Great Eastern main line en-route at Marks Tey. Sudbury was once on a through route to and from Cambridge, the line was closed West of Sudbury in March 1967. The station in this view has since closed, with a new station being opened in 1991. The 12.38 Doncaster - Cambridge via the GN/GE joint line leaves March on 15th May 1982 formed of Cravens Class 105 set no. 53 E51277 + E56463. On the rear is Lincoln based Class 114 unit E50016 + E56018 which was in a hybrid livery of old and new refurbished paint schemes. E51277 was to last another three years being withdrawn in May 1985. On a dull February 28th 1982, there was an eclectic mix of vehicles lined-up in the yard at Lincoln TMD. The faded-looking Cravens Class 105 Driving Motor Brake Second E51281 had been partially stripped of parts and was withdrawn. Behind the Ventilated Van at its corridor connection end was Class 08 08277, a resident of Lincoln Depot since 1968 and had been withdrawn from service in November 1981 being eventually scrapped at Doncaster Works in July 1983. On the right is former Southern Railway 6-Wheel Milk Tank ADS4456 which had become a storage facility for waste coolant and lettered 'Not to be used for Milk'. Martyn Hilbert.
