Kingsknowe station in the western suburbs of Edinburgh closed to passengers in 1964, but after campaigning was reopened in 1971. Seen here in August 1987, a clean Derby "heavyweight" set 107434 (52011 visible) rolls across the level crossing to enter the station with one of the Glasgow Central to Edinburgh "Shotts Stoppers". On the last day of Kilmacolm services - 8 January 1983 - hybrid DMU set 107435 (presumably with 51996 closest) is seen at Houston with a mid-morning service. This line, the last closure in Scotland which would never happen today, fell because of squabbling between District Council, Regional Authority and PTE funding. Alistair Ness.

Last Day No.1. The 08:50 Kilmacolm - Glasgow service (ex. 08:07 from Glasgow via Gilmour Street) crosses the Black Cart Water on the approach to Cart Junction. This is probably 107 435 (with 101 DMS to rear) which was diagrammed on the branch that day. The trackbed and bridge in the foreground is the GSWR route from Cart Junction to Brownhill Junction via Kilbarchan. The Kilmacolm bridge was dismantled and the line breeched by the A737 Johnstone Bypass further north. Most of both routes to the west are now part of the Sustrans National Cycle Route network.
