1st June 1989

Set: 956

With a heavy rain shower coming inland off the Exe Estuary, Plymouth Laira Class 108 set 956 formed of cars 52063 + 51939, was stood at Starcross with an Exmouth to Paignton service on June 1st 1989. The unit was one of several first generation DMU's sent to work in the West Country following the transfer of the Class 142 'Skipper' fleet North, and before the arrival of Class 150/2 Sprinter units. With the blue waters of the Exe Estuary as a backdrop, a two-car Derby Lightweight DMU formed of cars 52063 & 51939, was departing from Starcross with the 15.45 Exmouth to Paignton service on May 30th 1990. The unit was one of several first generation DMU's cobbled together and sent to Plymouth Laira Depot in 1987/88 following various issues and the eventual migration of the Class 142 'Skippers' to the North. M52064 at Dunford East with the diverted 1M42 1652 Nottingham to Manchester Piccadilly 26th May 1971. Keith Long.

25th July 1985

Derby built Class 108 Driving Trailer Second Lavatory (DTSL) M52064 was arriving at Rufford whilst leading a Preston to Ormskirk service on July 25th 1985. The car was one of the final batch of Class 108's built at Derby in 1961 and was the penultimate vehicle constructed of a total of 333 cars built to various configurations. M52064 has survived into preservation at the Severn Valley Railway. Martyn Hilbert.

A 3-car Buxton allocated Derby built Class 108 DMU comprising of M52064, M59388 and M51941 pulls into Chapel-en-le-Frith with a Manchester Piccadilly - Buxton working on the 14th May 1988. Andrew J Crowther.

13th May 1989

Set: CH376

CH376 (M52064 + M59183 + M51941) approach New Mills Newtown on the 08:22 Buxton to Piccadilly, 13-5-89. The two power cars were preserved on the Severn Valley Railway, and the center car is one of the few Class 104 cars to be painted blue/grey. Kevin Dowd.

CH376 (M52064 + M59183 + M51941) with CH372 (M52056 + M59148 + M53930) at Buxton on 14-5-89, the day before Sprinterisation of The Spa Line. 37 411 is on the TMD. Kevin Dowd.
