A class 127 DMU leaves Luton with a Bedford to St Pancras working on 5 July 1979. This view from the Crawley Green Road bridge includes a busy yard, together with tankers of heating oil for Dunstable stabled between the fast and slow lines. On the extreme left is Luton South signal box with the newish connection with the remains of the line between Hatfield and Dunstable. Kevin Lane.

A class 127 hydraulic dmu heads north from St Pancras in the summer of 1979 and approaches the tunnels south of Kentish Town. The widened lines to the left are closed for reconstruction and electrification for the Bed-Pan scheme. The former goods lines to the right have been cleared so the new main line alignment can be put in. The North London line crosses over the rear of the train. Tony Walmsley.

A Bedford-bound class 127 seen north of Hendon in January 1980. Although the masts for the impending electrification are up, these old DMUs would rattle up to St Pancras until mid-1983. Kevin Lane.

12th April 1980

Class 25/3 25324 was passing through Elstree station on the Midland Mainline with a demic Class 127 Bedford-St Pancras DMU bound for Cricklewood Depot on April 12th 1980. Another Class 127 DMU is visible on the extreme left, departing with a St Pancras to Bedford service. These well-worn Diesel-Hydraulic DMU's were finally replaced by Class 317 EMU's in 1983. February 1981

The carriage sidings at Bedford Midland photographed in February 1981, full of Class 127 dmus awaiting their next duties. The "new" Bedford Midland station can be seen in the distance, with another Class 127 reversing before returning on a service to St Pancras. These sidings were swept away to make space for the extended car park at Bedford, and the Class 127s were all replaced when the line was electrified by Class 319 emus. Lewis Bevan.
