The experimental Davey-Paxman diesel electric unit 9828 + 9821 in Derby C&W Works, circa early August 1956. Note the cables coming out one of the bodyside windows going to the engine on 9828, also the marker light on the top of the cab has not yet been fitted. Derby Works negative 56/812. British Railways.

paxman DMU

The mid-section of experimental Paxman diesel-electric vehicle 9828, taken at Derby on 14 October 1956. The two vehicles had two differences in this area that helps tell which is which - in the lower centre of the engine is what looks like a filter, 9828 did not have lifting brackets on this, 9821 did, and 9828 had two patches on the lower body seen on the right. The underframe equipment under one of the experimental Paxman diesel-electric vehicles, believed to be 9821. The engine is to the left, generator to the right. The fire system components were of the same type used on some regular DMUs: the flame switch under the BRC&W works plate; the fire alarm control panel further to the right; and two fire extinguishers can just be seen, one on either side of the engine/generator. Taken at Derby on 14 October 1956. Photograph courtesy of and © Paxman Archive Trust, series 2 negative 6360. Paxman Archive Trust.

115 DMU

The original 645 transparency of this image was found in an old developing tray in the spare room once used as my darkroom and I thought it worth scanning. I've no idea when it was taken but circa late 1980s and was obviously from Kings Sutton, taken in the early evening on a slightly misty day. The collection of vehicles heading for Banbury ( 115/108 and 101/suburban hybrids) is best described as a mish-mash both of colour schemes and classes. Peter Tandy.

121 DMU

It doesn't take long for a train to travel from Wilmcote to Hatton, reverse, and then return. Despite the gloomy weather I must have thought int worthwhile on 11 November 2004 to hang on for 960014 to return for its second visit of the day to Stratford-upon-Avon. Peter Tandy.

121 DMU

During the layover of 960014 at Stratford-upon-Avon on 11 November 2004 I took the opportunity to drive to Wilmcote station for another shot as it went north to Hatton on its route learning run. Here it is passing under the GWR footbridge, albeit in an odd shade of muddy pink. Peter Tandy.
