Agreed present seat satisfactory and no alteration necessary.
General Manager's request for consideration of revised colour scheme discussed. The Chief Operating Superintendent has a preference for the present colour and anticipates difficulty in keeping clean if lighter colour is adopted. Carriage & Wagon Engineer is having sample panels prepared but is of the opinion that painting costs would be considerably increased if two-colour scheme adopted.
The general opinion of the committee is that the present colour should be continued, unless there is some very special reason for alteration, having regard to the fact that the present colour is satisfactory from cleaing point of view, the enhanced cost of two-colour scheme, and the very favourable reaction of the public to the existing colour.
Mr.Butland said that the improvement in the condition of stations concerned in diesel schemes was proceeding reasonably well, but owing to budget restrictions, some stations have been deleted from the programme. The question is being dealt with on the lines that if a station is disreputable it is being dealt with, otherwise work is being postponed.
It was agreed that, about six months prior to diesel schemes being introduced, the C.C.E., C.O.S., C.C.M. and P.R.& P.O. should arrange for the stations concerned to be jointly inspected to ascertain what can be done to improve their appearance.
Mr.Salmon said arrangements are being made for the re-signing of all stations at which diesels are to be introduced.
Agreed that for all future schemes put into operation, the C.C.M. will advise this Federation.
