7.  Conveyance of parcels traffic

Noted that present position in respect of requirements of diesel parcels vans is :-

(a)  West Cumberland Scheme.   Delivery of three parcels vans expected in June 1958.

(b)  Manchester Part 2 Scheme.   Two vans have been authorised for inclusion in 1959 building programme.

(c)  St.Pancras Scheme.   Two vans to be included in scheme when submitted.

(d)  Birmingham Part 2.   No parcels vans will be required for this scheme.  Only comparatively short time between introduction of diesels and electrification, and in the meantime arrangements can be made to cover parcels traffic.

8.  Design of standard units of 57' stock

(a) Coupling together of units - Noted that Chief Mechanical Engineer has discussed with Rolls Royce, who have put up a tentative proposal to enable common control of each type of transmission to be achieved.  A further meeting is to be held to clear up details.

Mr.Randle reports that, due to the great urgency of the building programme, he is not proposing to make any alterations to the Rolls Royce engined units shortly to be constructed which are for the Eastern Region.

(b)  Seating arrangements

(i)  Alteration to provide 1st class non-smoking seating in 19 3-car Craven sets. - Noted that authority has been given for this alteration to be carried out, and work is in progress.
