 (ii)  Arm rests on 1st class seats. - Noted that Chief Carriage & Wagon Engineering Officer has agreed to modification of future stock by slight alteration in design of seat back to enable moveable arm rest to be fitted.  This only applies to 2 x 2 seating.

(iii)  Non-smoking accomodation in 3-car units. Noted that this question has been raised with the Chief Carriage & Wagon Engineering Officer, who proposes that it should be left for the Regions to arrange to suit their individual requirements, and each General Manager to inform the appropriate sponsoring Region of the requirements in this matter.

9.  Consultation with Commission-owned Bus Undertakings

Noted that B.T.C. Works & Equipment Committee have requested that the views of Commission-owned bus undertakings in the area concerned should be included in all future submissions for the introduction of multiple unit diesel trains.

Mr.Johnson stated that so far as associated bus companies are concerned, consultation already takes place through the medium of the Standing Joint Committees. This does not apply in the case of Commission-owned bus undertakings, but arrangements will be made for the views of these undertakings to be obtained.

572.  RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS

1.  Design

Noted that rail buses for L.M.Region will be provided with audible communication between guard and driver.

2.  Single manning

Reply awaited from Director of Traffic Services.

3.  Proposals for employment of four rail buses on L.M.R.

Mr.Gould stated that as a proposal for the closing of Blisworth, Weedon and Weldon stations was now under consideration, it is not proposed to introduce a rail bus service on the Northampton-Blisworth line, which will reduce the requirements of rail buses from four to three.
