Commission request, by October 1st, for all diesel multiple unit services, in operation or projected, to be reviewed and, where losses are heavy and the prospect of improvement slight, to determine whether the continuance or introduction is really necessary.
Mr.Dow explained that under the new Traffic organisation, this matter had been referred to the Divisional Traffic Managers with a request that all schemes be reviewed urgently and he would arrange for the recommendations to be submitted within the next week.
Mr.Dow stated that it was not yet possible to submit a priority list for future schemes. The Divisional Traffic Managers have been supplied with information respecting the present investigations into future schemes and asked for their recommendations in regard to priority. When these recommendations were received, a final priority list would be compiled by the Director of Traffic Services.
The Chairman asked for a short list of priority schemes to be submitted quickly in order that an allocation could be made of the 88 diesel vehicles which were to be found work for before the end of 1958 and Mr.Dow promised to press the matter forward and submit report.
Revised schedule of allocation attached as Appendix "B".
Mr.Nicholls reported that the back-checking of the Bury-Bacup scheme was almost complete and a report would be submitted shortly for submission to the Commission.
Agreed copies be circulated to members of the Committee for discussion at the next meeting.
