616.  SCHEMES ALREADY IN OPERATION

(1) Watford - St.Albans
Harrow - Belmont

Mr.Butland suggested that he was not yet in a position to submit a recommendation for the use of the A.C.V. units as C.E. service vehicles, but he hoped to report shortly.

(2) West Cumberland Scheme

Noted that as a result of discussions with the Cumberland Motor Services it had been agreed that the diesel service between Penrith and Workington be pruned during the winter months, in view of the comparatively small saving which would be achieved if the service were withdrawn.  Mr.Dow would report further when details had been compiled.

(3) Liverpool (C) - Gateacre - Warrington (C) Scheme

Service commenced January 6th, 1958 with six 2-car sets; increased to nine to cover peak loadings.  Noted that Divisional Traffic Manager had been asked for early report on basic number of units required for this scheme.

(4) North Wales Part 1 Scheme

Noted that a service with diesel units was introduced on September 15th between Bangor and Afonwen, to operate during the winter months only, in order to reduce operating costs on the line, and also to make use of units from the North Wales Part 1 summer services scheme which were not required during the winter months.

(5) Manchester Part 1 Scheme

Noted that a diesel unit service was introduced on September 15th between Manchester (London Road) and Liverpool (Lime Street) - four trains each way.  This was an interim measure to assist passengers during the progress of electrification work.

617.  DIESEL MULTIPLE UNIT DE LUXE PULLMAN SERVICE MANCHESTER - ST.PANCRAS

The Chairman referred to this project and the members concerned stated that all the necessary arrangemens were in hand.  It was proposed that the maintenance and cleaning of these trains be carried out at Reddish and the agreement of the Eastern Region was being sought.
