A copy of the report on the use of the 224 vehicles had also been sent to the Secretary General who had intimated that it would be considered at the next meeting of the B.T.C. Modernisation Committee, having regard particularly to the statement in the report that delay in submitting schemes was due, inter alia, to the amount of detailed information required to be given to the Commission. The Secretary General also had the impression that the ordering of diesel multiple unit vehicles for the L.M.Region had been overdone, which was not correct, and the Chairman said he would be writing to the Secretary General.
The Chairman stated that, in conjunction with the further cuts in the 1959 revenue budget, it was proposed to defer certain authorised works carrying a charge to revenue account of up to £10,000 subject to safety or other special reasons and the Departmental Officers had been asked for their observations on this proposal. It was not anticipated, however, that this ruling would apply to expenditure for the facilities shown above.
Mr.Gould stated that the submissions for the schemes selected were in course of preparation and the necessity for schemes to be submitted to absorb the whole of the 224 vehicles by the end of 1959 was stressed.
