E50202 leads the Class 101 forming the 15:35 Leeds - Morecambe service seen arriving at Gargrave on 1 April 1976. Michael Mensing.
In refurbished white with blue stripe livery, a two-car Class 101 DMU was approaching Settle Junction with a Leeds to Morecambe service on May 13th 1978. The blanked over top marker lamp means the DMBS should be from the small 50198-209 batch, and although the number cannot be fully read it appears to end in a 2, so this is presumably 50202, which was a Neville Hill vehicle at the time. Martyn Hilbert.
A visit (my only one, so far) to Ilkley on 5 May 1979. I travelled on the 10.27 from Leeds, formed of Metro-Cam Class 101 2-car unit 56385/50202, and this unit is seen departing from Ilkley on its next working back to Leeds, past Ilkley signal box. Ilkley Junction box, which dated from 1913, was closed as from 11 July 1994 in the run-up to the electrification of the line. According to Wikipedia "Ilkley is notable in that it was the last British Rail station to be lit by gas. The gas lights were extinguished for the last time on 8 May 1988." Lewis Bevan.
53202 hides behind the running-in board at Norwich, May 1986. Ian Docwra.
53202 holds up the traffic as it crosses the level crossing at Whittlesea on the 11th July 1987. Malcolm Clements.
Norwich based 2 car Metro-Cammell set 70 (53202, 54388) is seen approaching Brundall, which it's staggered platforms, with a Great Yarmouth - Norwich service, 8th August 1988. Andrew J Crowther.
Class 101 Set 70 (E53202 + E54388) on a 11XX Norwich - Lowestoft service approaches Lowestoft on Monday 24th October 1988. Despite having left Neville Hill over two years previously it still carries Metro Train branding. Colin Brooks.
A Metro Train branded Class 101 unit Norwich set 70 53202 + 54388 at Ely on the back platform single line bound for Ipswich on 8th June 1991. Nicholas Youngman.
Class 101 set 70 led by 53202 arrives into Trimley with the 2.40pm Ipswich - Felixstowe service on March 13, 1992. Michael Mensing.
On a dull Saturday evening of 11th July 1992 53202 stands at the rear of a four car set in platform 12 at Manchester Victoria, the other vehicles being 52059+53926+54050. Not a particularly good picture but it records one of the Manchester area parliamentary services that operated at this time, this one being the 20:10 Manchester Victoria - Ashburys. Ian Hazlehurst.
Longsight class 101 set LO241 formed DMBS E53202 and DTCL E54050 arriving at Manchester Victoria. The vehicles still retained their 'E' prefices and Metrotrain logos from their earlier allocation to Leeds Neville Hill, and 53202 also still appears to bear a Norwich set number '70'. Robert Chilton.
Class 101/108 hybrid DMU set LO241 (53202 and presumably 54203) on Chester depot on 24 January 1993. John Law.
53202 in Manchester Piccadilly on 11 February 1993 as part of set LO241, yet still with a set number and destination blind from a prior allocation to Norwich. David Bellamy.
Complete with its West Yorkshire MetroTrain PTE branding, Manchester Longsight Set L0241 was stood at Hooton with the 12.08 to Chester on a damp February 25th 1993. The nearest car was Class 101 Driving Motor Brake Second E53202, the other is a Class 108. The set was one of many to get an extended lease of life and a shuffle from one side of the Pennines to the other to cover for the then ailing and unreliable almost new Class 142 Pacer fleet. The third rail from Rock Ferry along the former LMS/GWR main line was extended to Hooton in 1985, with a DMU providing a connection at Hooton for the eight mile run to Chester. The third rail was eventually extended from Hooton to Chester in 1993. Martyn Hilbert.
In the days before electrification, a Class 101/108 hybrid two-car DMU with a scabby-looking ex Eastern Region Class 101 E53202 at the rear, was stood in platform 7 at Chester with a service to Hooton on February 25th 1993. E53202 still retained its Norwich set '70' in one of the cab windows. The unit was one of many life-expired First Generation DMU's kept in service to provide cover for the then problematic Class 142 fleet. Martyn Hilbert.
A refurbished Class 101 DMU (closest is thought to be 50202 or 50207) at Keighley on 4/8/79. Robert Frise.
Two two car Metro-Cammell class 101 dmu's climb out of Cromer, on what is now called the Bittern Line with a Sheringham - Norwich service, 15th August 1987. The first unit is made up of cars 54388 and 53202. Andrew J Crowther.
Norwich based class 101 2 car Metro-Cammell set 70 (54388 + 53202) is seen loading passengers at Brundall, with it's staggered platforms, with a Great Yarmouth-Norwich service on 8/8/88. Andrew J Crowther.
Brundall, with it's staggered platforms, sees a Norwich based class 101 2 car Metro-Cammell set 70 (54388 + 53202) leave with a Great Yarmouth-Norwich service on 8th August 1988. Andrew J Crowther.
51230 and presumably with 54369 at Cambridge on unknown date. Set 70 with number lefthand window just comparing with my shot on 8th June 1991 at Ely Dock so could be 53202 end. Nicholas Youngman Collection.
Class 101 set 70 - 54050 + 53202 - seen on a Sheringham to Norwich working passing Sloley Church Lane on 25th September 1991. Nicholas Youngman.
Met-Camm set 70 sits in Derby Road station (Ipswich) on the 13th March 1992. The cab door of 53202 is open, it looks like the signalman is talking to the driver. Michael Mensing.
A two-car Class 108 (set LO256 54276 and 51901) and two-car Class 101 (53202 + 54050) heading for Carlisle at Garsdale in August 1992. George Woods.
A Longsight allocated hybrid unit - LO241 - comprising of "Derby" Class 108 (54203) & "Met Cam" Class 101 (53202) negotiating New Mills South Junction on a peak hour working to Chinley. 5th May 1993. Andrew J Crowther.
A DMU formed of 54203 + 53202 (LO241) and 54347 + 51201 (101663) at Warrington Bank Quay station on 29 May 1993. Keith Miller.
