Class 101 cars E56388 + E50225 at Scotswood, Newcastle heading westbound with a service for Haltwhistle on 14/05/1982. This section of track was closed on 04/10/1982, from which time all Tyne Valley trains travelled over the former freight lines via Norwood Junction - maintenance costs of the Scotswood Bridge were a major deciding factor in the closure of this section. A well-worn looking Class 101 two-car DMU formed of cars M53231 & M54388 was stood at Bamber Bridge with the 16.27 Preston to Colne service on June 20th 1992. The set was allocated to Manchester Longsight Depot (101240) and this was the period when the remaining survivors of the first generation DMU fleet were kept in service due to the ongoing woes with the Class 142 Pacer fleet.
