A Swindon Works image (negative 5CR 189) showing the interior of brand new Cross-Country Driving Motor Second Sc51794. I have this dated as 22 March 1960 however the vehicle was new to Kittybrewster in 20 February 1960. This one of the second batch, and differences from the first batch (see image 5CR 82) was different side panel/ceiling formica, moquette and curtain material. The luggage rack lamps lacked the silver rings, and there was a heater thermostat on the partition. Also the nearest rows of seats lacked the headrest section, probably to increase visibility out the cab windows for the passengers in that saloon. British Railways.
A Swindon Cross-Country set (power cars are 51794 and 51782) approaches Taynuilt with an Oban bound excursion on 17/05/60. A portion had been detached at Crianlarich for Fort William, the passengers would travel by steamers between the two locations to do a circular tour. Michael Mensing.

A Class 120/101 hybrid set with a refurbished Met-Camm departs Fairlie High station en route to Largs circa 1981. It's an ex-Inverness DMS, of which two were at Ayr at the time. It is probably 51794 rather than '89, as it was noted working with 59680 + 51470 in February 1981. Andrew McConnell.
Class 120 Swindon Cross-Country DMS 51794 sits condemned in Haymarket depot on the 8th February 1987. Many windows are smashed or missing. Originally a ScR vehicle, it had moved to the LMR in 1981. Still carrying an M prefix, it had moved back to the ScR in April 1986 and withdrawn just weeks later in June 1986. Hamish Stevenson.
Withdrawn Class 120 vehicles, 51794 closest, seen at Dundee circa summer 1987. The rake also contained Class 101s and was being hauled by a Class 47, possibly en-route to Aberdeen Ferryhill for component recovery. Brian Ward.
