Two Swindon Cross-Country sets in Kingsknowe station sometime in 1960. The vehicles are noted as Sc51787 + Sc59681 + Sc 51788 and Sc51783 + Sc59679 + Sc51792. For part of 1960 six of the seven sets were allocated to Hamilton depot. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Set 301 at Keith Junction, 20/5/78 with SC51787 closest. An SRPS special was held waiting to come off the branch to Dufftown while this service passed. 20/5/78. Mike Cooper.

On the 10th March 1979 set 301 is led by SC51787 and has a Met-Camm centre car (probably 59574, it seems to have buffet on the side). It's on the 15:50 from Aberdeen at Insch. Hamish Stevenson.

A Swindon Cross-Country DMU in Edinburgh Waverley in October 1979. This would be an Inverness allocated vehicle, the first passenger window carries a 1 for first class making it a DMBC. The cut / oval buffers means that it is almost certainly 51787. S Saunders.
Distant Past. An interesting array of DMUs in Ayr Kyle Street Sidings. From the left it looks like a Class 126 TSL, Class 120 Cross Country Power Car, Class 116 Derby Suburban, Class 126 TSL, Class 126 Leading and Class 126 Intermediate to the right on the short road. The Swindon Cross Country is one of a number that spent a short spell at Ayr after the Aberdeen to Inverness services went over to Type 2 haulage. They eventually went south. The Class 120 is probably a DMC (three leading saloon windows) and Railcar suggests this could be Sc51787. This is obviously a Branch Line Society railtour! Swindon Cross-Country car 51787 really could not have travelled further down the branch to Girvan Goods on the second day of the "Ayrshire Wanderer" tour on 30 August 1981. With the Ailsa Princess as a backdrop the BLS Ayr & Stranraer railtour on 30 August 1981 almost reaches the buffer stop at Stranraer Harbour. The tour ran from Ayr and was formed of 51787 + 59685 + 51529. John Horne Collection.

The Sunday tour (on 30 August, formed 51787 + 59685 + 51529) started and finished at Ayr and here we are as far as you can get at Stranraer harbour. For some reason we spent ages here, probably due to awaiting a path on the Stranraer line where we were headed next, so I put the time to good use and walked much further away from the train to take my shot. On the second day of the Branch Line Society's "Ayrshire Wanderer" railtour, August 30th 1981, a mixed formation set was used. The leading end here is Class 120 Swindon-built "cross-country" car 51787, the trailer is a similar former buffet car (59685) and the far end is a Metro-Cammell class 101 car (51529). Class 122 Sc55005 sits in Inverness on 7/10/78, where it was based for a period of just over three years. Beside is Swindon Class 120 Cross-Country set 301, presumably with 51787 at the front. Stephen Burdett.
