In the wet summer of 1979 I photographed declassified DTCL E56399 at Newcastle Central on a North Tyneside circular service. 56399 was based at Heaton from July 1978 until May 1985 being renumbered 54399 in April 1983. Note the Tyne and Wear county symbol to the left of the cab door. Tony Walmsley.

Class 101 DMU cars E51205 + E54399 are seen at Gateshead East station with a South Shields-Newcastle service on Saturday 02/05/1981. Situated just on the south side of the River Tyne after leaving Newcastle, this station closed on 23/11/1981, replaced by the new Gateshead Interchange station on the Tyneside Metro system.
