On September 9, 1978, British Rail Eastern Region organised a return trip from Darlington to Eastgate, as far as one could reach on the Bishop Auckland to Wearhead line, and which had lost its passenger service in 1953. The trip was marketed as the "Rail Journey into Yesteryear". Part of this line is now operated as the Weardale Railway. The Metro-Cammell 4-car set was formed 50182 + 59068 + 59113 + 50171, and is seen at Eastgate. Jeremy Chapter.
A Norwich Class 101 DMU departs from Kings Cross station with Peterborough on the destination blind. Undated, the only information I can find on set 96 is from 1982/3 when it was formed of E50168 + E59113 + E50181. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A two-car Class 111 set and a 108/101/108 hybrid formed 53643 + 59113 + 53630 are seen at Barnsley on 12/12/87 working the 13:53 Leeds - Sheffield service. Stuart Mackay Collection.
A set formed of 53643 + 59113 + 53630 is seen in platform 4b of Leeds station on December 30, 1987. Rex Holt.
A three-car Class 108 hybrid (108 DMS 53632 + 101 TBS - probably 59113 + 108 DMS 53642) at Windermere forming the 15.05 to Oxenholme on 20-10-1988. The branch had just been shortened slightly to allow a supermarket to be built in the old trainshed (in the background). To replace the old station, a smart new ticket office was built. However the branch was (and still is) a long siding from Oxenholme. Gordon Thomson.

Out of use vehicles at Thornton in Fife on January 27, 1991. Closest is 59794, which wouldn't be officially withdrawn until the end of the year. It had been transferred on paper to Neville Hill but never moved there. At the far end of the line are 53187, 53179, 51453, 59113, 53424, TDB977223 and 59073. Hamish Stevenson.
