Class 101 centre car W59538 is seen in a Class 117 DMU set at Southall depot on 9 July 1973. Originally allocated to the North Eastern Region it was one of the first Met-Camm DMU vehicles to be allocated to the Western Region in January 1967. Alistair Ness.
On November 10, 1973, the Western Region ran a ten-car DMU 'London Branch Lines Tour' from Paddington. It comprised a 3-car 118, 3-car 117 and 4-car 117 set L464 that contained 101 centre car 59538, seen here beside 51407 during the stop at Morris Cowley. Hamish Stevenson.
Class 117 set 400 at Yetminster with Oxford on the destination blind. It has a Class 101 center car added, making it a 4-car set. The date is unknown, but probably late 1960s when it ran as 51376 + 59538 + 59486 + 51334. Taken by John Vaughan. Stuart Mackay Collection.

One of the DMU shuttles that ran from Darlington to Shildon for the Rail 150 Cavalcade on 31 August 1975. Helpfully, the November 1975 Railway Observer listed the formations of these shuttles and this one can be identified as, left to right, 59388 + 50644, 50141 + 59577 + 59081 + 50189 and 51439 + 59538 + 50143.
