Middlesbrough hat trick. Class 101s rule at Middlesbrough on 8/5/1977, with DMS E50162 on the left. Stephen Burdett.
Nowadays I think only train drivers get the benefit of the view of the Forth Rail Bridge from a train travelling over it. While the "first generation" diesel units operated it was often possible to get the view from the leading (or trailing) passenger saloon, as long as the driver had not dropped the window blinds. This view was taken on 10 May 1977 from a class 101 DMU. Jeremy Chapter.
In BR days, a class 101 calls at North Shields with a service that has been round the coast and is heading back to Newcastle. This is amongst the routes converted to Tyneside Metro system over the following few years. 17/05/1977 Graeme Phillips Collection.
A four-car Class 101 at Percy Main, North Tyneside, on 17/05/1977. With the camera pointing west / inland, evidently rather close to the sun, the DMU is working in a clockwise direction around the North Tyneside loop, now heading back towards Newcastle. Beyond the station, the tracks branching off to the left are the Riverside Branch, which closed to passenger traffic in 1973, but diminishing parts of it remained open to freight until 1988. The tracks going off to the right lead to the Blyth & Tyne network. Graeme Phillips Collection.

This charming scene from a pre-modern Alnmouth station shows a Class 101 DMU led by 50168 arriving with 1808 Newcastle-Alnmouth, at 1906 on 02/06/1977. Note the station trolleys, a moped and other characteristic clutter. The small B900 stenciled under the drivers window is from a short stay at Bristol. Graeme Phillips Collection.
The passing loop at Borth, mid Wales is out of use, along with the station signalling (the distant signal is operated from the nearby level crossing cabin) by the date of this shot on 8th June 1977.
