A green liveried DMU calls at the splendid ornate station at Kenilworth, on the Coventry to Leamington line, on 18 January 1965. This was a rebuild of an earlier station and dated from 1884. The station lasted until 18th January 1965 when it closed although the structure remained intact for many years as a builders merchants. Various plans have appeared over the years for a new Kenilworth Station, eventually succeeding. This shot shows a country station with porter, coal trucks in the siding and as many station signs as could be crammed in. The DMU formation includes a Metro-Cammell twin and what could be Park Royal and Gloucester twins. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

Class 101s Kinghorn Cutting, July 1965. This is my first proper train photograph taken when I was 7 years old. I'd been given a 120 medium format camera (I can't remember the make) for my birthday that April and I was hooked. It's such a pity now that I couldn't afford more rolls of film and, as we lived in Northern Ireland until I was 10, British Rail subject matter was sadly lacking apart from on our annual summer holiday visit to see my grandmother in Kirkcaldy. Alistair Ness.
