(c) First Class smoking accomodation. - Noted that
Eastern Region do not provide non-smoking accomodation in first class on any
of their 2-car diesel services. As there is provision for
non-smoking in the second class portion of our 2-car sets, a non-smoking
section in the first class cannot be economically justified as too many
seats would be lost. Non-smoking accomodation is provided in the
first class portion of 3-car sets.
(d) Seating arrangements. - Mr.Gould reported that 18
3-car units, Metro-Cammell, for the Birmingham Part 2 scheme (delivery February
to May 1958) and 19 3-car units, Messrs.Cravens, for the Derby, Nottingham,
Leicester (Part 1) and Birmingham (Part 2) schemes (delivered July to December
1957) will only have 12 first class seats per unit.
24 first class seats are required for 3-car units and it
was agreed that the B.T.C. be approached for the necessary alteration to be
made.
(e) Destination indicators. - Attention was drawn to the
different sizes of destination indicators fitted to the various types of units
in service, and particularly to the smaller size indicators on which the
lettering is not sufficiently prominent, and consideration will be given to
larger destination indicators being fitted to future units. Agreed
that the matter be put to the B.T.C.
(f) Blinds. - Mr.Dow stated that complaints have been
received from the public regarding the condition of the blinds on the Birmingham
(Part 1) scheme and he will arrange for the facts to be reported to the General
Manager.
