703.  SCHEMES AUTHORISED BUT NOT YET IN OPERATION  (Contd.)

2.  BLETCHLEY - OXFORD - CAMBRIDGE SERVICE

(a)  Introduction of diesel multiple unit service

Noted that the Commission have now approved the re-allocation of 16 diesel vehicles for the introduction of services to replace steam traction on this line, and that the new service would commence on November 2nd, 1959.

(b)  Maintenance facilities

Mr.E.H.Baker reported that the necessary maintenance facilities would be available for the commencement of the service.

(c)  Halt Platforms

Mr.Lambert said that the raising and extension of the existing platforms would be completed for the commencement of the diesel service.

(d)  Publicity

Noted that diesel service will be publicised by leaflets and posters and information has also been issued to the local press.

704.  SCHEMES AWAITING COMMISSION APPROVAL

1.  MARYLEBONE SUBURBAN SERVICE

(a) Submission of scheme

Scheme approved by Area Board and awaiting Commission approval.  Chairman will arrange for Commission to be pressed for early authority.

(b) Construction of units

Noted that delivery of 35 4-car sets would commence in January 1960, and continue at the rate of 4 1/2 vehicles per week until completion in September 1960.

(c) Maintenance and fuelling facilities Marylebone Carriage Shed

Noted that scheme now with D.T.S., and Mr.E.H.Baker will expedite submission to General Manager.

(e) Publicity

Mr.Salmon has under consideration.
