Mr. Reynolds stated that a submission seeking authority for the additional expenditure required would shortly be put to the Area Board.
(b) Commencement of Service
Mr. Lawrence said it was hoped that it may be possible to introduce some Diesel Multiple Unit Services on the High Wycombe line in September, 1960, in order to ameliorate the shortage of firemen at Neasden Motive Power Depot. Five 4-car sets would be available and the Western Region had agreed to the proposal if it was found to be practicable. It was agreed that firm proposals be submitted to the General Manager but it was essential that the necessary maintenance facilities should be resolved prior to the introduction of the service.
Approved and stages 2 and 3 to commence January, 1961. Stage 1 already in operation.
Approved and interim service in steam timings to commence on June 13th, 1960.
Approved and full service to commence on September 12th, 1960.

(a) Modified final drives
Mr. Baker reported that the Chief Mechanical Engineer, British Railways' Central Staff, had decided that out of course modification to the final drives of the whole of the units should be discontinued and in future modification should only take place as failures occured.
