The 5.35pm Birmingham New Street - Rugby departs from Kenilworth on 29 April 1962. This was a Sunday, it had arrived ex-Berkswell and reversed and is now heading to Coventry. It is a good view of the rear of M50499 showing the original footsteps and the board above the gangway. Michael Mensing.
A Class 104 DMU consisting of M50499, M59151 and M50450 (allocated to Derby Etches Park) is seen at Peterborough East on 29 March 1977. Phil Bevan.

A leaning power line mast, as a BRCW 2-Car DMU formed of cars M53499 & M53470 was passing Globe Mill whilst accelerating away from the token exchange at Midge Hall with a Preston to Ormskirk service on September 17th 1985. The home signal (MH 2) in the Down direction at Midge Hall, was (and still is) the only surviving working semaphore on the national network in the Preston area. Martyn Hilbert.
A two-car Class 104 DMU (M53499/M53470) was leading a pair of Class 108's on a six-car Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service, departing from Chorley on August 30th 1986. Martyn Hilbert.
BRCW Class 104s 53499 and 53470 forming the 18:15 to Wigan Wallgate departing from Manchester Victoria in the rain on 2nd June 1987. Gordon Edgar.
On a fine Summer evening, a two-car Class 104 DMU formed of Driving Motor Brake Second M53470 and Driving Motor Second Lavatory M53499, was hurrying along the Up Fast at Factory Lane, Penwortham, just South of Preston on July 6th 1987. The DMU appears to be well-filled, and the destination blind is showing Crewe. It may have been a returning special/charter from Blackpool North. Martyn Hilbert.
A class 104 power twin formed of 53499 (nearer camera) and 53439 is seen stabled at Lancaster on 19/6/89. The unit was later seen at Morecambe. Leonard Rogers.

This slide was annotated as 12:05 Heysham to York near Moss, 1980. The eight-car formation contains a Class 104 twin, a three car with Class 104 DMCL and TCL white stripers with a Class 108 DMBS, and another three-car which seems to be Class 105 power cars with a Class 104 centre car. Update: M50468 + 50499 / M50531 + 59178 + 50944 / M50761 + 59207 + 50794 with 1P90 12:15 Heysham Harbour-Accrington relief on 5 July 1981, see https://www.flickr.com/photos/psrp/50894325502/. For the incoming working see image 27291 on this website. Stuart Mackay Collection.
An eight-car DMU formation at Heysham Moss sometime in 1981, noted as an ex-Nelson to Heysham working (Rochdale is on the destination blind. Leading is a 105/104/105 - closest appears to be 50794 so its partners are presumably 59207 + 50761. The next three-car appears to be a 108 with two white-stripe 104s, then an unidentified two-car on the rear. Update: This is now thought to be 50794 + 59207 + M50761 / 50944 + 59178 + 50531 / 50499 + 50468 which would return with the 1P90 12:15 Heysham Harbour-Accrington relief on 5th July 1981, see https://www.flickr.com/photos/psrp/50894325502/. For that working see image 30023 on this website. Stuart Mackay Collection.
The British Rail Class 104 diesel multiple units were built by Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company from 1957 to 1959. The first units were ordered for the London Midland Region, with the majority of the class for use in North West of England, sets were also used on Tyneside, like the Metro-Cammell class 101's these units truly worked nationwide, but of all the routes worked by the class the Buxton route was the one with which they became synonymous. Here is a Newton Heath allocated set comprising of M53465 + M53499 in Stockport's platform 3a with the Stalybridge shuttle service on 30th August 1987. Andrew J Crowther.
A well laden two-car BRCW Class 104 DMU formed of cars M53465 & M53499 was departing from Lostock Hall on the last stage of its journey with a Colne to Preston service on October 17th 1987. Martyn Hilbert.
