Crookston is on the Glasgow & South Western's main line from Glasgow to Ayrshire, which was independant of the 'joint' line (with the Caledonian Railway) via Paisley Gilmour Street. Taken on 1st August that year, when these had only a few months to go before being replaced by Sprinters. 101688 (51431 + 51501) are seen during a runround at Barrhead on 1st August 1999, with the guard taking a break in the sunshine. This unit was not so lucky, being completely destroyed by fire near Mossend Yard on 17th November that year. Murray Liston.
