W50124 leads a Derby suburban triple DMU (later known as a Class 116) into Cardiff General station in January 1962. Michael Mensing.
M50124, Birmingham New St, 28th June 1982. Paul James.
The 13:15 Scarborough - Leicester worked by Tyseley set T410 (53124 + 59713 + 59602 + 51862) departs Scarborough on June 15, 1988. John Carter.
Class 116/115/127 Set T410 53124 + 59713 + 59602 + 51862 and 53827 + 59674 + 53844 on the 09.55 Birmingham to Yarmouth seen near Ely West Junction on 25th June 1988. Nicholas Youngman.
T410 (53124 + 59713 + 59602 + 51862) arrives at Barnt Green working the 14:23 Redditch - Lichfield City, 18th April 1992. Gazza Prescott.
Looking towards Bearley Junction from Henley-in-Arden on 2 May 1994 we see a six car set led by T588 (class 116 DMS 53124 leading with Class 119 51079 + 51107) and a 3 car class 116 trailing. Peter Tandy.
Another picture on 18 June 1994 of what may have been the last DMMU to visit Stratford-upon-Avon this time with class 116 DMS 53124 leading with Class 119 51079 + 51107 as the unit waited to return to Birmingham Snow Hill. The 2 class 119 vehicles had been transferred from Reading to Tyseley in the preceding February and I imagine that the class 116 vehicle had been added to provide extra capacity for the busy Snow Hill lines when covering for unavailable class 150 sprinters which operated virtually all workings in the area by this time. Peter Tandy.
Emerging from the gloom of Birmingham New Street station on 23/Apr/1987 is Class 115 DMBS no. 51884 at the head of non-gangwayed three-car set TS524 formed with 59622 (cl.127) and 53112 (cl.116). This was a nine-car consist, the other sets recorded as being TS400 formed 51862-59602-53124 (classes 115-127-116) and TS354 formed 53890-59054-53910 (two class 116 DMSs with a class 101 trailer brake). Unusually at this late date and for a unit in Blue/Grey livery, two white marker dots are displayed in the former headcode panel of the leading 115 and as I recall, they were actually stuck on the outside purely for effect. It looked really good compared with the usual plain painted treatment. 51884 had a more varied allocation history than many 115s, being new to Chaddesden thence to Trafford Pk, Allerton, Toton, Allerton again, Marylebone, back to Allerton before a return to Marylebone and a final transfer to Tyseley in 1986. It received gangways for the first time only in September 87. Robert Chilton.
Class 104 53517, set number CH611, is seen stabled at Tyseley on 26.12.1989 in all over BR blue. On the right is M53124. Andy Cole.
51859 at the rear of an e.c.s. working disappearing into the tunnel at the east end of New St at 16.48 on 10/4/93. The train comprised two 3-car sets : 51138/59600/51144 plus 53124/59713/51859. Leonard Rogers.
Another DMU with NSE-liveried vehicles visited Stratford-upon-Avon on 18 June 1994 and is possibly one with some significance. First, it was the first and only class 119 unit I photographed here and second it is quite likely that this was the last ever first generation unit to come into the station although I have no proof of this. It was certainly the last I saw here as Sprinters had been solid on services for ages with the exception of some specially strengthened services on the May Bank Holiday during the previous month. I must have been given some prior information about this in time to drive from work at Tiddington as I was ready and waiting at the station for its arrival with the 11.22 from Birmingham Snow Hill. It's a real shame that I didn't take any colour shots but through looking at my notebook it seems that I may have run out of slide films at just the wrong time. Unusually for me I wrote down the vehicle numbers; 51107, 51079 and 53124, a class 116 DMS. Peter Tandy.
Here we see a real mixed bag with two 119 cars nose to tail and a Class 116 at the far end. 51079 + 51107 + 53124 stand at the far end of Snow Hill Stn on a line which was shortly swapped over to the Midland Metro. It was probably the spare unit that day. 27th August 1994 Steve Robinson.
