In rapidly fading Winter sunlight, cars E56404 E51252 call at Tyne Dock with the 15:30 Newcastle - South Shields on 14/2/81. British Rail services came to an end soon after in May 1981 to make way for the Tyneside Metro system. Graeme Phillips Collection.
A Class 101 / 105 formation with E54404 + E53252 / E53359 + E54122 is seen near Ely on December 22nd, 1987. Nicholas Youngman.
Ex-works E50251 at the front of a Newcastle service at Carlisle in September 1979. Paired with a plain-blue driver trailer, which seems to be 56404, and working with a Cravens set. Karel 1999.
DMBS E51252 and DTS(L) E56404 are seen working the 14:38 South Shields - Newcastle, just departed from High Shields station, which is visible in the background to the extreme left, on 14/2/81. This station closed on 30/05/1981, and the route was converted to the Tyneside Metro network - this station did not survive, Chichester station being constructed at a different location. Surviving structures on the skyline include the gasometer (left, behind station), and South Shields Town Hall clock tower (centre right). Graeme Phillips Collection.
Two withdrawn Met-Camm driver trailers in Norwich on 10th August 1988. 54404 is on the right, 54058 in the centre and a Cravens DMBS is on the left, possibly 51292.All ended up at Snailwell by February 1989. Nicholas Youngman.
E53252 still carries its former Norwich set number 73 on the front window (which was with trailer E54404). At Snailwell on 30 July 1989. Nicholas Youngman.
