An eleven-car DMU formation at Heighington on a Darlington - Shildon "Cavalcade 150" Special, 31 August 1975. The 108/108/101 composition of the closest set matches a formation listed in the November 1975 edition of The Railway Observer (p351) as 50645 + 59386 + 50232 / 50641 + 59389 + 50624 / 50224 + 56067 / 51509 + 59062 + 51441. BX494 (M51938 + M59386 + M52039) class 108 dmu, part of the Buxton allocation, passes New Mills South Junction with the Summer Sundays only Buxton-New Mills Central - Buxton Peak Rail Ramber service, in this view heading back to Buxton, whilst a pair of 20's pass by with a Tunstead - Northwich working. 14th July 1985. A Class 101 about to pass a three-car Class 108 (which appears to be set 828, presumably 52051 + 59386 + 51936) at Cockwood Harbour, South Devon. 52051 was transferred to Plymouth in May 1989 and the image would be taken between then and February 1991 when it was involved in a serious fire. Bit of a rusty rail manoeuvre here, the Cornish Railway Society's 'China Clay Rambler' railtour on 28 April 1990 formed of a 2 + 3-car class 108 DMU formation with set P828 (52051+59386+51936) leading here. The tour is seen in Gaverigan Tip Sidings, this short branch off the Newquay line was the one time Cornwall Mineral Railways Meledor Mill branch which left the Newquay line at St.Dennis Junction. By this date the sidings once used as a local ballast tip were largely out of use and are thought to have been disconnected from the Newquay branch and removed some time after 1991. Adrian Nicholls.
