Met Camm class 101 DMC SC50746 leads the usual 3 car formation with 2V15 16:30 Rosyth to Kirkcaldy at Burntisland on 23rd June 1980. This service was provide for workers at the dockyard at Rosyth. The centre car in the set is a trailer brake second. Bruce Galloway.

Regional Railways Metropolitan-Cammell unit 101678 (53746-51210) shortly after leaving Ashley forming an afternoon Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service on 22 July 1999. Christmas Eve 2003 saw the end of the final Class 101 Metro-Cammell DMU’s in service with First North Western, up until that time having had regular duties on the Manchester Piccadilly – Marple corridor. Following a period of storage at Shoeburyness, unit 101678 eventually found a home in preservation on the Wensleydale Railway. Long before the route of HS2 was proposed, the DMU is precisely in the location where the Phase 2 route of the line to Manchester will eventually cross! Gordon Edgar.

Set 101363 at Stirling on 23/05/1984. Car numbers are 53144 + 59049 + 53746. The leading car unusually retains the central marker lights (top and bottom) and the top one even looks like it might be switched on, though there is no glass lens - both these central lights were usually removed upon refurbishment. On July 15th 1989 3-car Metro-Cammell class 101 DMU set no.101 324 (51253+59304+53746) is seen crossing St.Leonards Junction at Perth with train 1L31 the 16.03 Glasgow Queen Street to Arbroath. This train had been a class 47 diagram until the start of the 1989 summer timetable on the 15th May 1989 but had subsequently swapped to a long distance DMU working. Adrian Nicholls.
A westbound class 101 on an empty stock working is seen at Peffermill on the Edinburgh "Sub" around 15.30 on 16/9/89. The unit is probably 101 324, formed of 51253, 59304 and 53746. At this time the south tunnel at Haymarket was closed for electrification works and trains were being diverted over the "Sub" (formally The Edinburgh Suburban and South Side Junction Railway!). On the one-time four track section of the LMS/GWR joint line from Birkenhead, Regional Railways Class 101 101678 (51210 & 53746) was stood in the bay at Hooton with a service to Chester on September 1st 1993. At the time, Hooton was the limit of electrification from Liverpool Central and Class 508 set 508 117 is just visible on the extreme left of this view. The extension of the live rails southwards from Hooton to Chester was underway with electric services commencing just over a month after this image was recorded, the start date being October 4th 1993.
