Captioned as the first 3-car set to reach Dundee West, SC51447 (and presumably 59545 and 51517) is seen there on the 30th May 1959. The set was newly delivered that month to 62A (Thornton Junction). It would later become a Class 102. George Bett.
Metro-Cammell Class 101 (1959 batch) Local Passenger 3-car dmu No.51451 (Class 101/2) No.59545 (Class 171) & No.51518 (Class 101/2) on display in Marylebone station, mid-July 1974. This was the first dmu to be refurbished on a trial basis to establish what kind of refurbishment program should be adopted for the first generation dmu's to extend their life owing to the lack of money for new stock. Each car was refurbished to a different standard and the highest standard I thought was excellent. Unfortunately this was too expensive to be adopted in the programme. I worked in the Railways Directorate of the Department of Environment at this time and visited the set as part of my job. The platform this set is on was demolished and replaced by a new office block in the late 1980's Hugh Llewelyn.
The trial refurbishment Class 101 51451, 59545 and 51518 on display at Marylebone station on the 16th July 1974. The vehicles had the original style of short rainstrips above the door, by August these would be replaced by full length gutters. Tim Stubbs.
Prototype refurbished Met-Cam Class 101 DMU E51451 + E59545 + E51518 on show in York station, 14th August 1974. Paul James.

The prototype refurbished Class 101 DMU at Sheffield circa late 1974, and probably on its promotional tour. Visible are 51451 + 59545. When the set emerged from Works in July 1974, the vehicles still retained the original small rainstrips above the doors, now it has a full length gutter. John Law.
The prototype refurbished Class 101 DMU, 51451 + 59545 + 51518 at Arrochar and Tarbet on 21 July 1975. The set was diagramed to work the 10:35 Glasgow Queen Street - Oban and return from May 26th till October 4th that year. Stuart Mackay Collection.
The first refurbished Class 101 DMU - 51518 + 59545 + 51451 - are seen on a Glasgow Queen Street - Oban service at Crianlarich circa August 1975. David Rhodes.
The prototype refurbished Class 101 cars 51518, 59545 and 51451 are about to enter Inverkeithing from the Edinburgh direction in August 1976. The branch on the left went to Rosyth Dockyard, which had a service for employees. Alan Rintoul.
Met-Camm set (101) 326 at Ayr on September 26, 1986. The DMBS (furthest) is 51451, the other two vehicles are presumably 51520 + 59545. Hamish Stevenson.
