A six-car DMU formation heads north with a Glasgow service away from Ayr station on 5 June 1982. A Class 101 is at the front, 51529 leading, the rear set appears to be a Class 107. Mike McDonald.
This appears to be 51529 (presumably with 59686 + 51795) at the front of a six-car set departing Edinburgh Waverley with a Stirling service circa 1987. S Saunders.
A two-car Met-Camm DMU, set 101343 (presumably 51529 + 51795) seen at Ribblehead in March 1989. The vehicles had been transferred from Eastfield to Neville Hill in December 1985 but still carried their Scottish set number. They would move to Cardiff a few weeks after this photo with the start of the summer timetable, no doubt cascaded by more modern units. George Woods.
51529 has an improvised set number stuck in a cab window - 996 when seen in May 1989. This was its set number when transferred to Cardiff Canton that month with partner 51795. Seen at Bristol Temple Meads in May 1989. Stuart Mackay Collection.
The 1981 BLS Scottish Tour was the Ayrshire Wanderer which ran in two parts. The Sunday tour (30 August) started and finished at Ayr and here we are at Girvan Goods. For some reason we spent ages here, probably due to awaiting a path on the Stranraer line where we were headed next, so I put the time to good use and walked much further away from the train to take my shot. It was formed of 51787/59685/51529. Alistair Ness.
The 1981 BLS Scottish Tour was the Ayrshire Wanderer which ran in two parts. The Sunday tour (on 30 August) started and finished at Ayr and here we are at Girvan awaiting the road south. The formation of the train was interesting as it comprised two ex Inverness based Class 120 vehicles SC51787 + SC59685 and Class 101 SC51529. Alistair Ness.
The 1981 BLS Scottish Tour was the Ayrshire Wanderer which ran in two parts. The Sunday tour (on 30 August, formed 51787 + 59685 + 51529) started and finished at Ayr and here we are as far as you can get at Stranraer harbour. The mileage men were all crammed into the front coach to get the last drop but Alan and I elected to forego the scrum and walk down to take our pics. Alistair Ness.
On the second day of the Branch Line Society's "Ayrshire Wanderer" railtour, August 30th 1981, a mixed formation set was used. The leading end here is Class 120 Swindon-built "cross-country" car 51787, the trailer is a similar former buffet car (59685) and the far end is a Metro-Cammell class 101 car (51529). This was taken at Barrhill station. Jeremy Chapter.
With the Ailsa Princess as a backdrop the BLS Ayr & Stranraer railtour on 30 August 1981 almost reaches the buffer stop at Stranraer Harbour. The tour ran from Ayr and was formed of 51787 + 59685 + 51529. John Horne Collection.
51795 + 51529 at Worksop on 24 February 1989, still carrying a Scottish set number despite being allocated to Neville Hill for over a year. Image by Mark Harrington. John Carter Collection.
101 343 (presumably 51795 + 51529) in a wet looking Hellifield station on the 18th March 1989. John Reddyhoff.
51795 + 51529 in Bristol Temple Meads in May 1989. Recently transferred to Cardiff, it's former set number has been taped over and an improvised number stuck in the cab window. Stuart Mackay Collection.
