Window cleaning momentarily interrupted, staff have a blether at Waverley. The Met Camm unit, with 51467 at the front, will shortly form 2C11 1103 Edinburgh to Cowdenbeath on April 2, 1984. Bruce Galloway.
The first generation DMU's were renowned for oil leaks and copious exhaust as Springburn station bares witness with the black sticky oil soaked track and a sky full of smoke. ScotRail class 101 set 101 339 is seen departing with the 17.27 to Cumbernauld despite the station clock proclaiming its "11.10". When taken on 9 July 1985 the station was in effect the terminus of two passenger routes although the DMU is on a through mainline (the Garnkirk & Glasgow line built by the Caledonian Railway). North Clyde electric services to Milngavie via Queen Street Low Level using the bay platforms (the 303 behind the DMU). North of Springburn the "mainline" saw just one passenger train a day each way that being the West Highland Sleeper service which reversed at Cowlairs West Junction. Other than that its primary use was for freight and empty stock workings until the opening of the Cowlairs chord in 1992 which allowed the Cumbernauld trains to run direct into Queen St. Adrian Nicholls.

On the afternoon of the 23rd July 1986 a 3 car Class 101 unit sits in Glasgow Queen Street Station awaiting it’s next turn of duty. DMBS SC51467 leads the formation followed by TCL SC59554 with DMCL SC51532 bringing up the rear. It’s very quiet on the Platforms but with the clock above the leading cab showing just after 3pm I’m sure that won’t last very long. The rear 2 vehicles were scrapped by Vic Berry, Leicester SC59554 in October 1988, and SC51532 in July 1990, while the leading car SC51467 met it’s end at Snailwell during September 1990. Bob Woolnough.
101339 (Sc51467 + Sc59564 + Sc51516) enters Wester Hailes station in Edinburgh, which opened that day - 11th May 1987, with the 18:18 Waverley - Glasgow Central. Hamish Stevenson.

A Class 101 (set 339, presumably 51467 closest) at Burntisland in August 1987. Alistair Ness.
Unit 101339, leading car 51467, arrives at Grosmont en route from Whitby to Middlesbrough. This car was based on the Scottish Region for nearly all of its life, moving to Heaton in April 1988 for 15 months before withdrawal, covering for class 143 unreliability and re-engineering. Note the recently re-aligned track, giving the NYMR room to run longer trains clear of BR tracks. Tony Walmsley.
DMUs old and new in the DMU sidings at Haymarket depot circa 1988. 101339 has 51467 at the front, to its right are two single vehicles, the closest is a Met-Camm centre car (labeled set 306?). S Saunders.
51467 + 51516, then allocated to Heaton (HT) depot, seen at Eaglescliffe, Teesside on 11/03/1989. In March 1989, due to major engineering work between Stockton and Thornaby, Newcastle-Middlesbrough services were being diverted to and terminated at Eaglescliffe (with passengers for Middlesbrough having to catch a Darlington-Saltburn service, of which there were two per hour). This is probably the 13:30 from Newcastle, which would have arrived and terminated at Eaglescliffe at around 14:40. Graeme Phillips Collection.
51467 in Snailwell on 25th September 1990. Nicholas Youngman.

Class 101 set 340 at Falkirk Grahamston, March 1983. Just another everyday scene from the 80s. Alistair Ness.
Ex-works 51803 is at the head of 101340 at TS carriage sidings on 22/08/84. Jerry Glover.
A Strathclyde liveried set in Duddeston station on 24 August 1984. The rear two Class 107 vehicles (presumably 59802 + 51990) carried set number 107430. The 101 - 51803 - carried 101340, probably in error as it would soon be altered to 101430. Alan Harrison.
Met-Camm class 101 101340 (Sc51468 presumably leads) forming the 13.34 Perth to Glasgow Queen Street stopping service passes the box and crossing at Blackford on 24th August 1985. The signalman has been sharp in returning the peg, the few cars on the road will not be unduly delayed. Note also the differing application of the grey band on each vehicle. The bottom level on the first two differs marginally, on the DMBS the white separating strip is on the bottoms side of the bumpstops which are grey. On the centre car (which has a Haymarket castle) the white line is at the same level as the bumpstops which are in blue. The grey band on the rear power car is much deeper. Bruce Galloway.
101340 arrives at Haymarket station. Undated, probably 51537 closest. Andrew McConnell.
101340 reaches it's destination of Glasgow Queen Street and a platform already containing another Met-Camm set. Undated, probably 51537 closest. Andrew McConnell.
DMU set 101 340 heads away from Carnoustie station towards Dundee with a service from Arbroath circa early 1988. The vehicles are presumed to be 51468 + 59692 + 53645 (a Class 108 DMSL). Brian Ward.
101341 in Glasgow Queen Street station, June 1986, with Sc51469 at the front and presumably 59557 behind. Andrew McConnell.
