Cycling home along the towpath of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, I paused just outside Wigan to photograph a 2-car Class 104 making its way along the Southport line. In the background are the floodlights of Springfield Park, the home of Wigan Athletic F.C. until 1999. October 1983. S Gaskell.

One of the Bletchley allocated class 104 2-Car DMU sets is seen at Bedford St. Johns soon after arrival with stopping service 2C80 the 10.10 from Bletchley on October 15, 1983. The train will then reverse and return as 2A80 11.00 to Bletchley. This one time through station on the former L&NWR route to Cambridge closed on 14/05/1984 when Bletchley services were re routed over the freight only chord line to Bedford Midland station. A new Bedford St. Johns platform was built on the former freight line to the north west of the original station seen here. Adrian Nicholls.

Ayr Variety. BRCW Class 104 DMC at Ayr with M53505 leading a six car lash up, typical of the times. Despite a 'Carnforth' destination screen the train is heading for Glasgow Central! The imposing building in the background is the Station Hotel. Post closure, this building was allowed to go to rack and ruin. Its condition in 2019 forced temporary closure of the through roads to Girvan and Stranraer for a period of time and severly restricted operations in the rest of the station. January 1984. alicia hartman.
