A Class 115 DMU in High Wycombe station on 2 September 1974. Stuart Mackay Collection.
Seen from a DMU a Class 47 hauls a rake of vehicles probably heading to Derby C&W Works - the first two being a Class 115 DMBS and TCL, the others all seemed to be hauled stock - that has just passed under Welford Road and the site of Welford Road station at Knighton, Leicester, circa mid-1970s. Phillip Malin.
Class 115 DMUs stabled outside Marylebone station - with Lisson Green housing estate under construction behind. The Class 115 DMUs were high density sets which operated the outer-suburban services from Marylebone to High Wycombe, Aylesbury and Banbury. They operated the line for more than 30 years, from 1960 to 1991. The Lisson Green estate, seen in the background, was designed in the 1960’s, and built between 1970 and 1975. The estate became a 'no go' area in the 1980s and 1990s. Taken with my basic Kodak Brownie using 120 roll film, circa 1975. Chris McKee.

A Class 115 DMU (51889 closest) with an Aylesbury service in Marylebone station, July 1975. Opened by Great Central Railway 1899, it was the last London main line terminus to be built, designed by the GCR's civil engineer Henry Braddock in English Renaissance style. There is another train shed to the left which is not visible in the photo. The train shed on the right was demolished in the late 1980's and replaced by new office development. Two new platforms were constructed in the very wide central platform (which had a cab rank). Hugh Llewelyn.

Two dmus & a Ford Transit van at the London terminus of the Great Central Railway's extension, at Marylebone on 31st December 1975. It opened 76 years earlier & was virtually unchanged. The right-hand train is departing for Aylesbury. Before privatisation British Rail removed the right-hand platforms & roof during the 1990 remodelling. However the platform awning on the far right was retained and fitted to the left-hand span. However with the increase in traffic the station proved to be too small & additional platforms were opened by Chiltern Railways. Pete LG99.
An off-duty oval buffer Class 115 diesel multiple unit (which appears to be M51667) is stabled under Rossmore Road overbridge on one of the lines alongside the turntable at the Great Central Railway terminus of London Marylebone on 31st December 1975. Meanwhile another train is signaled away from Platform 5, the white painted bridge giving a backboard to sight the signal arms against. Pete LG99.
Great Central Railway London Marylebone 31st December 1975. Only 9 years since closure of the through route & 6 since total closure north of Rugby the GCR's 1897 London Extension was nothing more than a commuter line from Marylebone to Aylesbury in 1975. Little had changed since the diesel multiple units had taken over including the semaphore signalling as a train departs northwards. The other unit is stabled in the Down sidings. It's not obvious but the turntable also survived behind that set. Pete LG99.

As well as a prolonged heatwave, London and the south east of England also had a white Christmas in 1976. Snow still lingers on 30 December as a class 115 DMU approaches Aylesbury from Marylebone. Kevin Lane.
