(b)  Diesel Multiple Unit Building Programme, 1960  (Cont'd)

 The Commission have, however, been advised that it would be more convenient if delivery did not commence until September, 1960, as the employment of these is dependent on completion of maintenance depots.

 High Density vehicles
24 Liverpool (C) - Manchester (C) vehicles - Delivery to commence on 9.1.60. and completed by 13.2.60.

 140 Marylebone scheme - Delivery to commence 15.2.60. and completed by 19.8.60.

 It is proposed that the Liverpool (C) - Manchester (C) vehicles shall be the same type as the Marylebone vehicles (without trip cocks), equipped with 230 H.P. B.U.T. engines with gearbox transmission.

(c)  Future operation of passenger train services

Noted that a Working Party has been set up to prepare a draft report on passenger services for the next five years and thereafter.  When completed the report will be submitted to the Area Board and the Commission to form one of the features, so far as the L.M.Region is concerned, of the re-appraisal of the Modernisation Plan now being undertaken.  The Working Party are required to complete their report by April 15th, 1959.

Mr.Pearson said that the re-appraisal will, in respect of diesel services, give further information which will become available to the members of the Committee.

2.  Allocation of units being built at Derby and by Contractors

Revised schedule of allocation attached as Appendix "B".

3.  Conveyance of Parcels Traffic

(a)  Three vans delivered and working experimentally in West Cumberland, Stoke and Birmingham areas.  Mr.Gould stated that he was satidsfied that the present arrangements for utilising the vans in the three areas were more satisfactory than confining their use to the West Cumberland scheme, for which they were originally ordered.
