Three car BRCW dmu sets were allocated to Norwich for the first time in late 1975. All except one came from Hull Botanic Gardens and were replacements for Metro-Cammell sets which had been gathered by Norwich from 1968 onwards. The Class 104 sets were in pretty poor nick, but here's one which has had some TLC at Doncaster Works. Photographed on April 25th 1980 whilst working the 13.36 Peterborough - Cambridge service, E50578 ended up being part of the last three car set at Norwich. Most of them left in 1980, but this one lasted until February 1981 when it went to Stratford. Refurbished Metro-Cammell triples were their replacements. The BRCW units were numbered 80 - 88 and the refurbished Cammells commenced with set 90. Gerard Fletcher.

Standing amongst the rural neglect that was Sudbury (Suffolk) back in the early 1980's is this 2-car class 101 DMU set is waiting to depart with the 11.02 to Colchester on August 4, 1984. Adrian Nicholls.
Norwich based class 101 DMU set no.80 is seen amid the weed choked remnants of the once larger station of Sudbury on the former Great Eastern Railway cross country line from Marks Tey to Cambridge via Haverhill. The line beyond here closed in 1967 and this station itself shut in 1990 when the branch was truncated slightly to a newer station south of this one serving Sudbury. The 'Met-Cam' DMU is waiting to depart with train 2K11 the 11.35 to Colchester on 04/08/84. Adrian Nicholls.

Class 101 2-car DMU Norwich set 80 (54355+51180) at Norwich on 15-5-88. With "Yarmouth" on the destination blind this is presumably a Norwich-Yarmouth service. This was the day before Class 156s took over North West services. On Tour With The Class 13 Army.
