Having terminated at Shirley with a service from Birmingham, Tyseley class 116 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) TS500 (presumably 50061 + 59000 + 50092) has pulled out of the station and after the driver changed ends, waits to cross over from the up to the down line and return as the 1829 to Birmingham Moor St on 2 September 1978. After 55000 had shunted from platform 1 to 2 at Stratford-upon-Avon on 16 May 1986 an arrival from Birmingham Moor Street was allowed to enter the station ready to form the 08.26 back to Birmingham. Tyseley class 116 unit T627 formed of 53061 + 59613 + 53092 is shown here passing the inner home signal with the starters for platform 3 and the Cold Store siding on the right of the picture. Half of Stratford East (sometimes wrongly called Stratford North) signalbox is just visible at the back of the 3 car unit. Peter Tandy.

B.R. Derby MBS 53061 has just arrived at Birmingham Moor Street, it will form the 19.40 Birmingham to Shirley train. The other two vehicles are presumably 59613 + 53112. Moor St has grown since this was taken on 15th December 1986, the area behind the spear fence was the old carriage sidings, it is now the new buildings that form the island between platforms 2 and 3. Is that two staff member standing looking at the engine? This is believed to be 53061, seen at Aberdare on 13 November 1987. It was allocated to Tyseley at the time and displays set number TS627 in the left cab window. M53092 is on the rear, the centre car is presumably Class 127 TSL 59596. Stuart Mackay Collection.

Class 116 DMU set TY527 (presumably 50119 + 59027 + 50061) heads away from Kidderminster station. With Kidderminster on the destination blind it was probably a termination service now switching lines. Another 116 and a 101 are stabled in the sidings. Michael Mensing.

Evening at Moor Street. One of Tyseley's Derby suburban 3 car dmu sets is poised to work the 20.40 hrs service along the North Warwickshire line to Shirley. 53061 is at the far end (image 31469), closest are presumably 53112 + 59613. These 1957 built units took over from steam and gave 30 years service until they were replaced by Class 150 units in 1987. Birmingham Moor St looks fairly clean and tidy in this shot taken 15th December 1986, the platforms and their infrastucture are much the same today but the clear view of the Rotunda is masked by the Selfridge building. The set number in the left cab window has been turned over and "Express To " chalked on with no destination mentioned.
